A Nation of Investors: The Indispensable Role of Savings

A Nation of Investors Research Report cover image

Our latest research, published in partnership with Leeds Building Society, comes as the push to create a ‘nation of investors’ in the UK gathers pace.

We support the principles and objectives behind targeted support – the new FCA regime allowing firms to give tailored suggestions to groups of similar consumers – and believe that closing the advice gap is essential to the financial well-being of the UK.

Our research suggests that, for this regime to succeed over the long term, it must be delivered with a mindset that respects individual resilience and prioritises consumer understanding.

The aim of this report is not to advocate for ‘more investment’ or ‘more saving’, but for a system that facilitates the right outcome for the right person.

As a registered charity incorporated by Royal Charter, the LFBF exists to advance financial knowledge for the benefit of the public. The analysis here is strictly neutral, focusing on consumer outcomes rather than product preference, and is grounded in that charitable purpose: to publish research that improves collective understanding of the financial services landscape.
